Carefree, Arizona: A Little History

From its earliest days the SkyRanch Airport has been an indispensable part of Carefree. Shortly after WWII, Messrs Tom Darlington and Kenyon Turner (K.T.) Palmer created an idea for a new town and years later formed a business partnership acquiring the land that is now known as the Town of Carefree. In 1961 the airport was established with only a dirt strip for a runway, but it provided the means to attract investors and tourists that were needed to fuel the economic engine of the new town. SkyRanch at Carefree soon became Arizona’s first airport to offer residents fly-in access to their homes on an airfield.
